First Monday of Summer Break
(Here's Abi w/ Gramma)
So it begins today, summer break! Today marks the first of oodles of appointments for Abigail, today she begins therapy. It's been a long, trying and sometimes tear marked journey to reach this point. Abi is blooming, and in a wide span of "catching up", and it's hard for an outsider to see the things that we have been struggling with for years. As a child with Asperger Syndrome, its hard to see the "specific issues" she faces, because in addition she has some language barriers as well. She's doing quite well in school, all things considered academically ; socially she's a sort of odd duck. The girl who only a couple of kids will play with, and is often teased excessively, and shunned. She feels that pain a lot. So our goal this summer, is to work on some sensory issues, keep up with her speech therapy and largely work on her social skills. Help her to learn to read social cues, body language from other kids, and to be able to come up with appropriate social responses. It's a tall order, but she has a good team, and I feel confident it will be successful!
Donovan has the rest of baseball season and football camp consuming the lion's share of his time this month. We have our nephew visiting until Friday, when I will most likely return him home when I go watch my niece graduate from HS/College. Swim lessons start on the 30th and will occur twice a week, for 5 weeks for the two little kids. So it is shaping up to be a very full summer. I am not doing any babysitting, other than the occasional fill in here and there....and the revolving run of nephews and nieces coming to visit (we like visitors)....I am so excited that we have such an opportunity filled summer.
I do praise God for taking such good care of us this past winter, had it not been for him, we wouldn't be in a position to do what we are able to for our kids now.
Off to get some more stuff done before the kids start to wake up!

Abi is so adorable. I will be praying for you as you Abi begins therapy. Blessings.
Best wishes on Abi's therapy. You do have your hands full. God does help us, amen.
I'm so glad you're able to help Abi. You're such a good mama. I hope your day is pleasant and your house is clean! :)
there was a kid in Amy's previous school that had AS....I never knew anything about it til then. He is now in high school and doing quite well. He was a "odd duck" as you said but his mom and brothers kept working with him and he is doing well today...
